The Dark Mage is dead.

And by that, of course, I don't mean me as a person - I am referring to the dark persona of mine that I conceived over two years ago to fight off the built-up negativity inside of me. Lately, I have been wanting to make peace with the world and separate myself from the threads that hold me to the past. The amount of these threads that have been severed in the last few weeks has allowed me to truly move on from it.

August 24, for the last few years, has often been a date when important things happened to me. Summer would always end on a note of change, but even more so this year.

The time that follows is a limbo. There is a huge project planned for the end of the year. Should it go right, it will be the debut of my permanent alias.

Let's see what happens afterwards.

Summer has always been a time of great changes for me.

A few days ago, this became apparent once again, as I felt a completely new tide forming in me.

In two days' time, I will be absent and spend time in a place where I have always found a great deal of inspiration for both my artistic and philosophical self. I will spend a lot of time reminiscing about some important things, and once I come back, few things will remain the same.

Everything will be clear once that happens.

For now, I will be absent for this time duration:

I've been kinda going through an existential crisis (again), but should everything go right, I will soon publish the largest project of mine - the remix from the last post! It is already about to surpass the time I spent on my previous largest project (Vox Nubes, ~25 hours) with 20 hours spent on it so far. After that though, I don't really have a plan anymore, the main reason for which is lack of inspiration. The only track I published here that was created from a spontaneous burst of inspiration was Valley Secrets - I had to force myself to do the other ones. Which is why they kinda suck. The one I'm currently working on, however, is partly a result of being inspired.

All things considered, I must take a step back and withdraw inspiration.

It has now been 6 months since I created this account, a time in which I've been semi-actively learning the basics of music production.

What has changed? In terms of personal life, a lot, but in music production, I haven't had the time to improve quickly. However, through trial and error I also learned a lot, and I can say with a degree of confidence that in a few months' time, I may be able to stabilize my learning process and finally get out of the true "beginner" phase.

A few things I'm planning:

  • Finishing a track I'm working on right now
  • Making my first remix (hopefully by summer)
  • Binging more tutorials
  • Releasing first EP (hopefully by the end of the year)
  • Just going with the flow! I'm happy with where I am and I enjoy being able to express myself in a new medium.

Some bad things have been the topic of discussion for some of my producer friends recently, so let's turn to brighter things for now.

My latest published track is now the most voted submission of mine on this account! It's not a significant number (8 including myself), but it means a few people listened to it and voted fairly high. I sincerely hope the projects I'm planning will be more and more enjoyable to listen to.

That being said, I will have a bit more time on my hands soon, which I will use to accomplish these short-term goals.

Not at all!

School hasn't really allowed me to make music actively for a few weeks now. It's winter break now though! I am working on a somewhat large project for New Year's right now, and I also had to make something else today.

I received a really nice Christmas present today - new headphones (bye bye, producing on $3 earphones). I think the sub on it might be overdone but otherwise even though it's designed for DJs (some in my family have a hard time distinguishing being a DJ and producing), it seems like once I get used to the headphones they will help me a lot.

After the project, I'm not set on what I will be doing at the beginning of 2021. I will probably be looking to amp up my sound design skills as I've neglected them the most recently. Perhaps I'll try out different genres like riddim and trance and make a few basic songs in each of them. I'm currently more comfortable with writing orchestral than electronic music which is kind of cool, but not where I want to be headed for now.

That's it for my monthly ramble. Merry Christmas to those who celebrate!

I have made some changes to Intergalactic Mayhem, which should be a lot more bearable to listen to in terms of volume. It will remain one of my only finished songs for a short while, and soon after that I'll be ready to make more music. Hopefully better music as well.

I have also continued my songwriting challenge of one short composition per day, but due to personal affairs that took up most of the day, it was much shorter, just over 30 seconds in length, so I'm not uploading it today. I'll continue uploading most of the longer ones, partly for tracking and motivation, and partly for others to be able to see the majority of what I've made whenever that is required.

I'm off to sleep.

Have a good day/night!

After over two years of being in the state of wanting to pursue making music but not quite having the motivation and guidance for it, I finally snapped out of it two months ago. And I'm making rather rapid progress even with periodic involvement due to school.

Still, as I listen to some of the music artists around the internet, and especially some of my inspirations' personal favorites, I ask myself: will time really make me like one of those guys? Because now I notice all those nuances that make these songs really awesome and special. And every one of these artists seems to have that one song that is one of my favorites, and when I listen to it my mind goes "yep, I'm not ever going to get close to that".

The answer to that question is actually "no".

In fact, nobody becomes a copy of someone else as an artist. They can be inspired, and that certainly has an impact, but being like someone else, I've discovered, is a detrimental mindset to have. Instead, other pieces of art can be remade, improved even. Done in your style, which has different fortes and different areas of struggle.

With that said, I'm not looking to become like anyone other than the best version of myself.

I've decided to abandon my previous account and start anew.

Hopefully I'll get better at music production eventually, so I can do things on this site, like enter competitions or branch out to new people. I think I'm on a good way right now :)
